Mr. S Devaraj
Mr. S Devaraj, the Promoter of Grama Vidiyal Microfinance Limited (GVMFL), is now the Executive Chairman of the company which was acquired by IDFC Bank on the 12th of July 2016. His experience in inclusive social development especially through financial inclusion and poverty alleviation programs spans over 33 years. He is one of the pioneers of the Grameen model of microfinance in South India. He had also founded many other entities viz. Swarnodhayam Credits Pvt. Ltd, Grama Vidiyal Enterprises Limited and Vidiyal Matriculation School, a school dedicated to the under privileged poor children of rural Tamil Nadu. He also founded many networks of voluntary organization in South India viz. INDNET, MICNET etc. which are the forerunners to the present SROs for the microfinance sector. Mr. S. Devaraj, is a Post Graduate (MA) and had also received Diploma in Social Development (DSD) with a specialization in credit, savings and rural cooperatives from Coady International Institute (Canada) in 1985. In 1986, he was awarded a UNDP fellowship and travelled extensively across India, visiting and studying the business models of various voluntary organizations. He has also attended number of National and International workshops and presented papers and contributed to the growth and stabilization of the financial inclusion and poverty alleviation programs in India.
